XQueryNotes

These are my notes about using XQuery for querying information serialized in XML data sources

XQuery is beginning to prove very useful in extracting information that is encapsulated in XML documents. These documents don't necessary mean files in the traditional sense. XQuery has 'outs' or provisions for retrieving XML documents in various ways - if they are files on your system (file: // scheme) or over the web (http: // scheme) or any other protocol that a vendor implementation provides for - (xmldb: // protocol in the case of the very useful native xml database called eXist). All major database vendors support XQuery at different levels of maturity, with huge investment in terms of $s and people. Their XML 'engines' are relatively expensive and fast becoming their key revenue generators - which is a clear indication of the market for such technologies on the rise. This bodes for the developers and customers.

XQuery and ReST-style web-services team up very well. Hopefully test harnesses like bumble bee help take the sting away.
