A Visit to Minneapolis Institute of Arts. USA

The Minneapolis Institute of Arts is one of the top fine arts museum in USA. The museum houses nearly 100,000 works of art.The museum provides arts education for people of all ages and supports special exibitions.

The first floor mainly covers special exhibitions, children's gallery and study center.The second floor covers exhibits of Anciant Art, Africa, Asia- China,Japan,Himalayan Kigdoms India and modern and contemorary art works.Third floor has exhibits of Europe and American art of different periods, It also a photographic section consistsing of more than 10,000 photographs. The museum authorities permit for photographing of exhibits with certain restrictions.

Asian gallery covers Asian Bronze works,sculpture, ink paintings, calligraphy,screen printing, jade,laquar , gold,silk textiles,furniture, ceremics and Islamic illustrated books,metal works and ceremacics.

Indian Art Exhibits: The museum has very small number of exhibits- bronze works of chola period Nataraja, stone sculptures of Ganesha and stone-arches.

Indian Art Promotion Activity: surprised to see two volunteers one from china,a software engineer and the other retired professor from Gujarat with some exibits of Indian and chinese small book- lets on their small table at the entrance of seconfd floor. They periodically come here to enlighten audience with fine aspects and culture of china and India. They were delighted to see us,my wife Anjali and son Arun with his camera.

Technological Assistance: Interactive museum directries are provided to look for works by name,title,or type of art.
Interactive learning section: user friendly computer programmes to go behind the scenes and explore aspects of museum's collection in depth.
