del.icio.us

No, that is not a typo. It is actually a "social bookmarking" website, in fact the leading one that revolutionized how we share information.
One of the uses that the site quotes is:

Whenever you find a great recipe on a website, save it to http://del.icio.us. Tag it with the recipe's ingredients or style of cooking, and then when you're wondering what to make for dinner, you can use your saved bookmarks to help you remember the perfect recipe.

We, at CurryUp, decided to just do that. Going forward you will see "delicious badges" on the site. You can now, click a button and bookmark a page that you like so you can return to it or other folks can discover it, or you can explicitly share it. Just like on this site, you can "tag" or "label" your bookmark for others to easily find it : and thus the term social bookmarking indeed!

As always, we look forward to your feedback.

Music Maestro O P Nayyar Passes away

CurryUp pays tribute to the maestro. His memory will live with us forever. Here is some news from : http://www.screenindia.com/fullstory.php?content_id=14757

O P Nayyar, the firebrand composer who had turned a recluse for over a decade, passed away on January 28 at the house of Rani Nakhwa, with whose family he stayed as a a paying guest with since his estrangement from his own family. He was 81. Nayyar scored music for about 60 films .

In the week of his demise, the major Hindi film released, Salaam-e-Ishq, used a Nayyar charttopper, 'Babuji dheere chalna' from his breakthrough film Aar Paar in remixed form for a situation. Nayyar made his last public appearance at a musical evening dedicated to his songs on January 26.

Naya Daur, the film often considered to contain his all-time greatest score, will be released in colorized form in April this year.

"Just the other day I heard a marriage procession passing by my house playing the tune of 'Udi jab jab zulfen teri', while the song 'Yeh desh hai veer jawanon ka' is a must for every national function,' said Ravi Chopra, son of BR Chopra, who had produced and directed the epic film.

Ravi, who is busy getting Naya Daur in colour, says,"I was looking at those songs in colour and I was thinking of caling Nayyar saab for a show, wondering how delighted he would be, but now that is just a wish that will never come true."

Born in Lahore on January 16, 1926, Omkar Prasad Nayyar started his career with the background score for the film Kaneez (1949). However, he tasted his first commercial success five years later with Guru Dutt's Aar Paar (1954), which was followed by Mr & Mrs 55 and CID both with Dutt.

CurryUp carries several of his movies : Naya Daur, C.I.D, Aar Paar, Mr. & Mrs. 55 and more...

Great Snack

Discovered a great snack over the weekend:

What a great product. This delicious snack - flavorful but not "hot" from the western Indian state named Gujarat is very popular. It is a "spongy" (salty not sweet) cake made by steaming fermented dough-mixtures. Although popular, it is a very difficult snack to make. Many of us have tried to bring back those authentic memories, and gave up.

Just the other day, we taste-tested this excellent product from Swad. The quantity is substantial and you can easily entertain a party of 4-6 folks. It is well packed with good instructions to reconstitute it back.

What we did was took it out, transferred it to a microwave-ready serving plate and microwaved it for a few minutes. Midway through the cycle, we split the cubes apart (the center pieces were still cold) and re-microwaved it. You can smell the aroma wafting through the air while you wait.
Once done, you will feel the "sponginess" of the Khaman spring back to life. The package comes with grated coconut and cilantro and with the necessary spicy additions.

Divide the cubes into appropriate serving portions, and have your party go at it with forks ( or fingers... oh come on...its ok!). People will marvel at your culinary skills at preparing an authentic, exotic Indian dish - just don't tell them your shortcut! Especially when you got it for so cheap.

Shifting into higher gear

Its time to shift into higher gear now. From the "hits" that we are getting to the CurryUp portal, its time we realized we are not "Beta" anymore and "Gamma" will probably be a better level, given that it is beginning to get traction and more importantly, use. There is still a lot to do before this bliki can be released.
